Dutch tourist found dead in train

NEW DELHI: A young Dutch tourist who was travelling on Saptkranti Express from Gorakhpur along with five other foreign tourists, died in the Capital on Thursday morning after reaching New Delhi railway station.

According to a Northern Railway official, after the train reached the station around 7-45 a.m., co-passengers of Janine Corina Vanbirgink (25) approached officials at the station and sought medical attention for her.

She had apparently fallen ill on the train and was de-boarded at the station in an unconscious state. An ambulance was called and she was shifted to nearby Sucheta Kriplani hospital where doctors declared her "brought dead".

Delhi police sources said on the request of Dutch embassy officials, no post-mortem examination was conducted and the body was handed over to the sister of the deceased who was also travelling with her.

Special MCD drive for property tax

NEW DELHI: To boost its property tax collections this financial year, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Thursday launched a special drive for rectification of tax assessments and disposal of pending applications. The special drive is aimed at enabling taxpayers to clear pending arrears.

According to a civic body official, property owners who have applied for the mutation of their properties due to sale and purchase or any other cause have also been advised to file with their concerned zonal officer requisite documents and deposit up to date taxes and due transfer and composition fees for mutation purposes.

A general survey had been started in respect of properties against which no tax has been paid and said penal actions as provided in the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act would be initiated against the defaulting taxpayers. The property owners also have been advised to file their self-assessment property tax returns immediately, he added.

Four arrested for burglaries

NEW DELHI: Four young men have been arrested at Badarpur in South Delhi on charges of their involvement in burglaries. The police claim to have recovered some stolen articles.

According to the police, one of the accused, Prashant Kumar, was arrested during a routine check on July 29. During interrogation, Prashant allegedly disclosed that he along with Mohammad Imtihas, Ajay and Sukhbir used to commit burglaries. At his instance, the police arrested the other three and recovered stolen articles like television set and a video compact disc.

Murder accused held at Badarpur

NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old man, who was allegedly involved in a murder case in Uttaranchal, was arrested at Badarpur in South Delhi on Wednesday. The police claim to have recovered a country-made firearm from his possession.

Palwinder Singh was arrested during a routine check when the police recovered the firearm from him. During interrogation, he allegedly disclosed that he had killed a security guard, Karan Singh, by poisoning him at Kashipur in Uttaranchal on July 18. The Uttaranchal police have been informed.
