Reserved category medicos stage protest

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Medicos Forum for Equal Opportunities has in a memorandum to the Prime Minister drawn his attention towards "discrimination against doctors and students of reserved category at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in the wake of the anti-reservation agitation as also the continued implementation of `user charges' at the Institute".

Resident doctors and faculty of AIIMS organised a protest march on Thursday from the Institute to the Parliament but were not allowed to leave the Institute premises.

Stating that the anti-reservation strike was sponsored by corporate money and enjoyed patronage and protection from the local administration, Forum convener Vikas Bajpai said: "Concerned faculty, resident doctors and students of AIIMS are dismayed at the attitude of the Central Government. Reserved category doctors were forced to abstain from work to make a strike directed against their interests successful."

Discrimination

Members also claimed that a study by Medicos Forum for Equal Opportunities into various complaints in the hostels revealed that this discrimination extends even to the field of sports, cultural and academic life on the campus.
