CHENNAI: Pangea3, the Mumbai-based provider of outsourced legal and patent support services, announced that it has received the second round funding of $4 million from a consortium led by The GlenRock Group, LLC, an investment firm. Sanjay Kamlani, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of company, said the company received the first round of funding of $ 1.5 million in March 2005. The additional funds would be used to recruit legal talent to ensure continued growth in both the U.S. and India and also to expand facilities and offerings in both markets. The current strength of the company was 100, which would go up to 150 by the end of the year. The company was also planning to open new centres across the country. As a first step, it would shortly open a centre in Delhi. Since its launch in May 2004, the company had grown to over 40 clients. The U.S. team of Pangea3 consists of 10 lawyers while the team in Mumbai consists of nearly 65 lawyers. Pangea3 was witnessing a 50 per cent quarter-on-quarter growth and expects revenues of $2.5 million this year. One of the main reasons for outsourcing work to India is the cost arbitrage factor, Mr. Kamlani said. While an U.S. lawyer was paid $400-$600 an hour, the same work was done in India in a more cost effective and efficient manner for just $50- $70 an hour, he added. Pangea3 currently provided services areas such as patent research, analysis and prosecution support; document review, litigation and due diligence; contract drafting management and administration; legal research and business information research. Pangea3 delivered these services in conjunction with its own customised low-cost technology solutions that enable corporate counsel and law firms to fully utilise its work product in ways previously impossible from a technical or budgetary standpoint.
