Ravulapelam: Ranga Reddy's Guru Sai Dutt won both the singles and doubles titles at the AP junior State (u-19) badminton tournament, which concluded at Cosmopolitan Recreation Center here on Friday.

In singles, the unseeded Guru Sai, a trainee with SAAP-Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad, faced little resistance from his doubles-partner Tarun before triumphing 21-19, 21-11.

Guru, with some astute placements and deft cross-court shots, tormented Tarun to the optimum, forcing him to commit a series crucial unforced errors.

Later the Guru-Tarun combine defeated Anil Kumar & Vikranth in a scintillating final, which went the full distance.

Anil and Vikranth, who were leading 9-3 in the final, failed to capitalise on the lead and allowed their rivals to get off the hook.

Bouncing back

Hyderabad's J. Shruthi, who lost the first game againt Sikki Reddy, bounced back to win the girls' singles title.

She took a big 14-7 lead in the second game and succeeded in hoodwinking her rival in finding vacant spots at regular intervals. Then, with judicious overhead smashes, Shruthi sealed Sikki's fate to win 11-21, 21-10, 21-6.

Vijayawada SAAP Academy shuttlers Jyothi Swaroopa and Suswetha brought cheer to coach Rajesh by winning the girls doubles title.
