Laser National sailing from tomorrow

Hyderabad: Competition will be held in five age categories along with the main championship in laser standard and laser radial classes in the laser National sailing championship to be held at the Hussainsagar Lake here from Aug. 6 to 12.

Major General R.S. Jamwal, vice-president, Laser Class Association of India (LCAI), announced the details here on Friday. The five categories include laser 4.7 (for children), youth category for laser standard and laser radial classes, apprentice masters category, masters (45-54 years) and grand masters (55-64 year).

Prizes will be given to the winners of each of these categories. The top prize will be the Lt. Cdr. Kelly S. Rao trophy, which will go to the sailor who tops the laser standard fleet without discards.

The meet, which features 36 races over six days, will be jointly conducted by the LCAI, EME Sailing Association and the Secunderabad Club under the overall supervision of Lt. Gen. Arvind Mahajan and Asadullah Pasha, president, Secunderabad Club.

While the opening ceremony, practice race and council meting will be held on Sunday, the actual competition will begin from Monday. Most of the Secunderabad sailors will be seen in action including S. Anirudh, Dinesh Boorugu, Nagesh Boorugu, G. Rohit Mohan, V.B. Ramesh, Murali Kanuri and Archana Kamlakar.
