BANGALORE: Host KSCA XI snatched a four-wicket victory over Victoria's Emerging Players XI in a three-day match that concluded at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Friday. Chasing 191, KSCA made it home thanks to crucial knocks by Bharat Chipli (52), Deepak Chougule (35) and B. Akhil (42 not out). The visitor scored 202 for six in its stipulated 45-over second innings after KSCA declared at its overnight score of 278 for four in 93 overs. All-rounder Akhil helped the host tide past a brief slump as Thilak Naidu, Ganesh Satish and skipper Yere Goud perished in their bid for quick runs. For the visitor, seamer Brad Knowles scalped S.N. Ameeth and Chougule but with Akhil holding fort, the host was always in with a chance.
A good beginning
Goud termed the victory as a "good start" to the season. "The asking rate was just around 4 runs per over. The opposition was good and their fast bowlers kept it tight. The pitch was two-paced but it was the kind of surface on which if you stay for 90 overs, the total could be 300," Goud said. Meanwhile, the Railways player has applied for a no-objection-certificate from his team so that he can play for Karnataka in the forthcoming season. "The NOC will take some time," he said, adding that he may not play in the one-dayers at Mysore.
The scores: Victoria Emerging Players XI 267 for nine decl. in 89.5 overs and 202 for six in 45 overs lost to KSCA XI 278 for four decl. in 93 overs and 192 for six in 42.4 overs (Bharat Chipli 52, B. Akhil 42 not out).
