KANDAHAR: The U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan said 25 Taliban militants were killed in a joint operation with Afghan forces in the south. The attack occurred on Thursday in the village of De Adam Khan in the Grishk district of volatile Helmand, a coalition statement said. NATO recently took charge of security in the region, but the U.S.-led coalition has retained responsibility for counter-terrorism operations and can still operate in the south. President Hamid Karzai assured his countrymen that a plan was in place to secure the war-weary country. Expressing sorrow at the deaths and condemning the attackers as cowards, he said, ``We have begun very broad actions ... You will see some actions that will finally earn security for Afghanistan.''
