COLOMBO: A delegation of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) called on High Commissioner Nirupama Rao on Friday and gave her a detailed briefing of the situation in Muttur town. The delegation led by party leader Rauf Hakeem told Ms. Rao that Muttur would be reduced to a "ghost town" if there were no immediate cessation of hostilities. The SLMC wanted India to use its good offices to prevail upon Colombo and the LTTE to halt fighting for at least 48 hours to enable safe passage of civilians.
