Coalition blamed for growing irregularities

`Officials dictating terms to Kumaraswamy and Yediyurappa'

  • Government accused of having lack of control over bureaucracy
  • `Officials are not showing any interest in the implementation of budget proposals'
  • Government urged to go ahead with the metro rail project approved by the Centre

BANGALORE: The Congress on Thursday blamed the coalition Government for the growing irregularities and inefficiency, and accused it of having lack of control over bureaucracy.

Addressing presspersons here, general secretaries of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) V.S. Ugrappa and Prakash Rathod, MLCs, and P.M. Ashok, secretary, criticised the Government over the issue of fee subsidy for professional courses. It first buckled under pressure from the Finance Department and went back on the commitment to provide fee subsidy to medical, dental and engineering seats to be given to Dalit students. Faced by the backlash following the announcement by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, it took the issue to the Cabinet and got its approval, they said, and demanded that it release funds towards subsidy immediately.

They accused some senior officials of the Finance Department of dictating terms to Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and the Chief Minister. Officials of various other departments were not showing any interest in the implementation of budget proposals, they alleged.

Reiterating the party's demand for the resignation of the Government on various counts, they said it changed its stand on the CET several times.

On the metro rail project, they said the Government might favour monorail.

The Congress leaders urged the Government to go ahead with the metro rail project approved by the Centre.
