`They have left an indelible mark on State's legislature history'

Biographies of eleven eminent legislators released at the Vidhana Soudha

BANGALORE: The lives and times of eminent persons who set great standards and strengthened the Legislature in the times gone by were a reminder that of late, people were feeling let down by their elected representatives, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Krishna said here on Friday.

Speaking at a function to release the biographies of 11 eminent legislators as part of the series being brought under the aegis of the Karnataka Legislature Library Committee, Mr. Krishna said each of the 11 persons featured in this collection had left an indelible mark on the State's legislature history. The study of their lives and work was the best education that legislators of the future could have.

Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly N. Dharam Singh spoke about the work of Sharanagouda Inamdar, nonagenarian who was present, calling him "Sardar", a soldier who had led many farmers' movements and freedom fights.

The 11 books, and another documenting the history of farmers' movements and satyagrahas in the State, bring up the number of books published in the series to 64.

The books released on Friday and their authors are Keshavarao Nittoorkar by G.B. Visagi, B.M. Horakeri (M.S. Patil), K. Kenchappa (Chandrashekar Thalya), Sharanagouda Inamdar (B.V. Mallapura), Kolur Mallappa (Gangadharaiah Hiremath and Devendrappagouda Mali Patil), Mohammed Ali Mehtab Ali (Shivaraj Patil), Basavarajeshwari (Prahlad Betageri), Devendrappa G. Ghalappa (Nagabai Bulla), Shankarashetty Patil (M.S. Latte) and B. Shyamasundar by Gandharva Sena and Karnataka Raitha Chaluvali-Satyagraha by M.G. Nagaraja.

Acting Chairman of the Legislative Council Sachidanand Khot, Higher Education Minister D.H. Shankaramurthy, Agricultural Marketing Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur and many MLCs and MLAs were present.
