Mumbai blasts: man held in J&K
Staff Reporter
Jammu:
A Surankote resident of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district has been arrested for his possible involvement in the July 11 Mumbai blasts, which left 200 people dead and over 700 injured.
A Special Investigation Team of the Mumbai Police, headed by Inspector Sanjay Atma Ram, took custody of Abdul Hameed, a resident of Sanai village of Surankote.
He was presented before a local court. This is the first arrest made in Jammu and Kashmir in connection with the serial blasts.
Abdul Hameed was working in Mumbai just like many people of this belt who are employed in low skilled jobs in the port city. He became a suspect after he left his home immediately after the blasts.
Any possibility of his involvement is still being investigated, police officials said.
Hameed had lost his identity card, issued by the company he works for, at one of the blast sites. Police later recovered it.
