`He loves IT, won't say it'

Anand Parthasarathy

Bangalore: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy loves Information Technology — only, he does not say it out loud. Why? It's called the `Beauty Queen Syndrome,' said the State's Principal Secretary for Information Technology, Anup K. Pujari, while speaking at the opening session of NASSCOM's Engineering Services Summit here on Friday.

A beauty queen may love one person, but she will not say who because she is admired by thousands of people. They will be disappointed if they know that she has only one love, Dr. Pujari explained to the assembled IT captains. "It's the same with the CM. He's in love with you, but can't say so publicly."

NASSCOM president Kiran Karnik responded with a quip: "We always knew about IT and beauty."

`Bangalore Nano'

In a more serious vein, Dr. Pujari said that after IT.in and Bangalore Bio, the State would add another hi-tech event, `Bangalore Nano,' to focus on nanotechnology. "We have already discussed this with the Indian Institute of Technology and the Member Secretary of the Planning Commission. The Chief Minister will shortly announce the date of the first Bangalore Nano event," he added.

He also said that within a year Bangalore would be `unwired,' becoming one huge wireless hotspot for Internet access.
