Usual story of revenge

Chacko Randaman

Set against a Tamil backdrop, Chacko Randaman is the usual story of revenge. Kalabhavan Mani dons a triple role: those of a grandfather, son and grandson.

The film starts with a fight in which the "second Chacko,' who is dumb, kills Gopi, a local ruffian (Adhithyan), when he tries to murder his father. Gopi was also responsible for making Chacko dumb a few years ago by slashing his tongue.

The story takes an ugly turn when the son of Gopi, Deva Narayan, the local MLA, tries to harass the entire Chacko family.

The film only proves that it takes more than tinkering with the hairstyle to bring out the generational differences in Kalabhavan Mani's roles. The shabby and rustic makeup of the hero looks almost amateurish. Mani fails to impress in his triple role, especially as the grandfather. He fails to achieve the flamboyance of Tamil heroes.

Mohini, in the guise of an old lady, does not leave any effect whatsoever. Adhithyan has done justice to the role of villain. Vijaya Raghavan makes a lot of noise, though in an appreciable but restrained manner. Jyothirmayi's presence is nominal.

Jain Joseph has cranked the camera. Editing is by M.V. Sajan and music by Sundar C. Babu. Debutant director Sunil Kariyattukara could have done better with some more hard work.
