CHENNAI: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has treated as closed two petitions seeking medical treatment to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader, A.N. Maudhany, who is imprisoned in Coimbatore Central Prison in connection with the Coimbatore serial bomb blast cases. This followed a report from the Additional Director-General of Prison (ADGP) that the prisoner was being provided Ayurvedic and allopathic treatment. In her petition, Ms. Sufiya had said her husband was in jail for the last eight years, without any trial. She said he lost one leg in a bomb blast. Besides, he was suffering from diabetes, hypertension and heart ailment. The apex court had said that he should be given suitable treatment. She alleged that he was being denied that right. She also charged the jail officials with visiting him at midnight causing disturbance to him. She requested the commission to take steps so that her husband would get treatment.
