Muthu all set to become an engineer

CHENNAI: S. Muthu, a 19-year-old student from a village near Perambalur, has joined a city engineering college, thanks to `The Hindu' readers.

Muthu's dream of higher studies and his financial requirements to take up the engineering course were highlighted in these columns on July 31. Several readers contributed towards his educational expenses, especially admission fees totalling Rs.51,820.

D. Sherin, director of the Thaineri Educational Trust, which supported Muthu's education, said the contributions amounted to nearly Rs.1 lakh.

"We are still receiving contributions. We are moved by the interest of the people in helping an underprivileged student," she said.

Muthu has joined B.E. Electronics and Instrumentation at St. Peter's Engineering College, Avadi.
