PALAKKAD: Minister for Health P.K. Sreemathy has said that 400 doctors will be appointed in the Medical College Services and the Health Department in the State before August 31, 2006. Inaugurating the Rs.63-lakh development schemes in the District Hospital here on Saturday, the Minister said that there are 1,200 vacancies for doctors in the Health Department. There are also a large number of vacancies in the para medical staff. Steps are being taken to appointment more medical staff, she said Ms. Sreemathy said that 500 buildings constructed by the local bodies in the State remain idle as health centres could not be started in these buildings in the absence of doctors and other medical staff. The Government will take steps to start the functioning of health centres in the new buildings. The Minister has inaugurated the centralised Oxygen distribution system, Orthopedic O.P, effluent treatment plant and other facilities in the District Hospital. The meeting was presided over by district panchayat president Subida Ishaq.
