Staff Reporter

Protest against failure of the police to nab murder-accused

UP IN ARMS: KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala inaugurating a police station march by the United Democratic Front in Pullad, near Kozhencherry, on Saturday.

PATHANAMTHITTA: The United Democratic Front (UDF) took out a march to the Koipram police station in Pullad, near Kozhencherry, on Saturday in protest against the alleged inaction on the part of the police in arresting the culprits behind the murder of a woman in Pullad two months ago.

Remadevi (52) was found murdered in her house in Pullad on May 26.

The Crime Detachment cell attached to the district police authority was investigating the case. No arrests had been made so far.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala inaugurated the march.

Mr. Chennithala said there was reason to suspect that the delay in booking the culprits was an attempt to protect the culprits.

The KPCC chief alleged that the law and order situation in the State had deteriorated after the LDF came to power.

Kerala Congress(M) leader Victor T. Thomas; Rajya Sabha member P.J. Kurien; K. Sivadasan Nair, MLA; Peelipose Thomas, Benny Behenan, Mannar Abdul Latheef; and Youth Congress district president A. Sureshkumar also spoke.

The local people have formed an action council to press the demand for a fair inquiry into the incident.

Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy had visited the bereaved family a few weeks ago.
