Hidden agenda behind secret parleys, alleges KPCC chief

Staff Reporter

`Disclose details of talks with college managements'

PATHANAMTHITTA: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala has alleged that there was every reason to suspect a hidden agenda of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Government holding secret parleys with various professional college managements.

Addressing a press conference at the District Congress Committee (DCC) office here on Saturday afternoon, the KPCC president has alleged that the present crisis in the State's professional education sector was mainly owing to the immature stand taken by Education Minister M.A. Baby on the private self-financing professional colleges' issue.

"Had the Government been sincere in its reported attempt to reach a consensus on the professional colleges' issue, it would have opted for an open dialogue with the college managements, instead of the ongoing secret talks," Mr. Chennithala alleged.

The KPCC president has alleged that the Government was keen to keep the confidentiality of its talks with the college managements adding that it was nothing short of denying the common man's right to know.

He has also demanded the Government to divulge the details of the talks held with the college managements as on Saturday with any further delay.

Mr. Chennithala has demanded a judicial inquiry into the custodial deaths in different parts of the State.

He said that not less than eight persons have been died in police custody in the past three months alone.

"Crime rate has been shot up like anything and total anarchy prevailed in the State, making a mockery of the very purpose of the Government itself. Common people live in constant fear as law and order has become a thing of the past under the LDF rule,'' he alleged.

The KPCC president has alleged that the Home department was a big flop. He has alleged that the police have failed miserably to register even a petty case against those who have attacked various private self-financing professional colleges in different parts of the State in the name of agitation.

Mr. Chennithala has also called upon the Government to pay adequate compensation to the bereaved family members of those who died in police custody with out any further delay.

P.J. Kurien, Rajya Sabha Member, DCC president K. Sivadasan Nair and vice-president P. Mohanraj were also present.
