KIEV: Parliament on Friday approved Viktor Yanukovych to become Ukraine's Prime Minister a stunning turnaround for this ex-Soviet republic less than two years after pro-Western reformers led massive street protests against Mr. Yanukovych's run for the presidency. Lawmakers approved Mr. Yanukovych in a 271-9 vote after President Viktor Yushchenko Mr. Yanukovych's presidential rival in 2004 nominated his former rival as Premier. Mr. Yushchenko said the alternative dissolving Parliament and calling new elections would have been a blow to the country. AP
