Sreedharan Pillai says internal bickering in CPI(M) has affected governance

THINKTANK: BJP leaders Raman Pillai, O. Rajagopal, P.S. Sreedharan Pillai and L. Ganesan discuss a point at the BJP State leadership meet in Kozhikode on Saturday.

Kozhikode: The State leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has said that a group within the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is attempting to bring down the V.S. Achuthanandan Government in the State.

Briefing mediapersons after a meeting of the State-level office-bearers here on Saturday, BJP State president P.S. Sreedharan Pillai said that the Students Federation of India, an affiliate of the CPI(M), was being used to get rid of Mr. Achuthanandan from the post of Chief Minister.

The internal bickering in the ruling party had derailed the functioning of the Government. The misadministration was reflected in all spheres of activity, he alleged.

He said that nine custodial deaths had been reported in the State since the Left Democratic Government came to power. Ministers could not take decisions on many serious issues on account of the internal problems of the CPI(M), Mr. Pillai said.

He said that the public had great expectations when the LDF Government assumed power. However, it was not able to solve any of the problems including those in the education sector.

Regarding the professional colleges Act, Mr. Pillai said that the Government should convene an all-party meeting with a view to rectifying the anomalies in the Act.

He said that the BJP would seek measures to arrive at a consensus on electing the president of the State unit. This would be held in consultation with the national leadership in the first week of October.

The booth elections would be completed by August 21 and the mandalam elections from September 1 to 15. The district elections would be completed by September 25.
