Whodunit?

ISLAMABAD: A secondary controversy around the expulsion by Pakistan of Indian diplomat Deepak Kaul has broken out over which side went to the media first with the information.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said "mindful of the environment" between the two countries Pakistan did not want to go public with it, but alleged that it was India that had created the "media hype".

Indian officials denied the accusation. They said that at the meeting with Pakistan Foreign Ministry officials at which they were informed about the expulsion, both sides had agreed not to inform the media about the expulsion.

The Indian High Commission officials said they were surprised to see the news soon after on Pakistan television channels, one quoting government sources, another quoting Intelligence sources. Geo, a private TV station in Pakistan, was the first to break the news quoting "Pakistani authorities."
