Rameswaram: The fact finding team of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has charged that the State Government has failed to provide even basic amenities to the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees, who have taken asylum in Tamil Nadu. The team led by deputy general secretary C. Sathya visited the Mandapam camp near here on Saturday and met refugees who were given houses at the camp. The team also visited the quarantine camps for men and women and the hospital. The refugees brought to the notice of the team about the inadequate facilities given to them at the camp. Speaking to reporters after visiting the camp, Mr. Sathya said refugees were being treated like prisoners. The condition of the camp was inadequate to meet the basic needs of the refugees. Though the Government announced some measures to fulfil the needs, they had not reached the refugees camp yet. At present, the camp had housed more than 5300 persons. But, there were no enough toilet or bathing facilities. A hospital was functioning with just 20 beds. It was inadequate to meet the huge number of refugees.
