DUTA's call for University Bandh

NEW DELHI: Accusing Shivaji College Principal Rama Patnayak of financial irregularities, the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) has given a call for a "University Bandh'' on Monday.

The DUTA Executive has also warned the Governing Body and the Vice-Chancellor against any active or tacit support to the illegal functioning of Dr. Patnayak.

"The Vice-Chancellor had promised in March this year, when teachers of Shivaji College had resorted to examination boycott, that he would take up the matter with the Governing Body which was in the process of getting reconstituted. He has backtracked now and has left it to the staff association to take up the matter with the Governing Body all over again,'' a press statement issued by DUTA stated.

Students' clash in JNU

NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was witness to another clash between students late on Friday night outside Sabarmati Hostel. While the reason is not clear, it is believed that the fight took place after some students harassed the sister of another student.

"Her brother tried to sort out the matter with the boys. He might have said something or beaten them up, it is not clear. He registered a police complaint. But these boys got together later at night with rods and motorcycles and then beat him up,'' said a student.

The JNU Students' Union has issued a notice condemning the vandalism and violence. All the guilty students must be punished, it said.
