Bidhuri appointed president of Delhi NCP

Staff Reporter

He will replace Rajinder Bhardwaj

NEW DELHI: Union Agriculture Minister and Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar on Saturday appointed senior leader and party MLA from Badarpur Ramvir Singh Bidhuri as president of the Delhi unit of the party. Mr. Bidhuri will replace Rajinder Bhardwaj.

Mr. Pawar made the appointment after having a long meeting with Mr. Bidhuri on the future plan of action for the party in Delhi. It was felt that in view of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi polls early next year and the growing resentment against the ruling Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party, it was important that the party was rejuvenated and given a proper direction to take on the challenges ahead. In view of the recent developments, it was felt that Mr. Bidhuri, with his vast political experience and contacts with the leadership of various parts and fronts, was the right person to be appointed to implement the party's agenda in Delhi.

Mr. Bidhuri was MLA of the Delhi Assembly from 1993 to 1998 and was elected again in 2003. He also served as convenor of the Central Election Campaign Committee of the Congress party in 1996. He had also remained as the national general secretary of the Janata Dal for six years under former Prime Minister V.P. Singh.

Stating that he was ready to take up the responsibility, Mr. Bidhuri said he would outline the future plan of action next week but indicated that he was already in touch with senior leaders of Jan Morcha, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Janata Dal (S) to form a firm alliance against the Congress and the BJP. "I thank Mr. Pawar for giving me this opportunity and I will continue to work for the interests of the people and raise all those issues that affect the common man,'' he remarked.
