TN storms into final

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu defeated Jharkhand by four wickets to enter the final of the eighth National veterans' inter-zonal tournament at the Mayajaal ground here on Saturday.

Skipper R. Venkatesh made an unbeaten 62 (86b, 7x4) and P. Rajesh contributed 39 as the host successfully chased 158.

On Friday, P.R. Venkat Subramanian's blazing 42-ball 89 (11x4, 6x6) was the highlight of Tamil Nadu's five-wicket victory over Vidharbha.

Opting to bowl, the host dismissed Vidharbha for 161, with K. Srinivasan and S. Madhavan picking up three wickets each. For the visitor, Prahlad Rawat top-scored with 65.

Tamil Nadu will meet Sourashtra in the final on August 7.

The scores:

Semifinals: Jharkhand 157 for nine in 35 overs (Raju Dubey 33, Sanjay Sharma 33, P.R. Venkat Subramanian three for 29) lost to TN 161 for six in 32.5 overs (R. Venkatesh 62 not out, P. Rajesh 39).

League: Vidharbha 161 in 29.3 overs (Usman Ghani 44, Prahlad Rawat 65, K. Srinivasan three for 28, S. Madhavan three for 28) lost to TN 162 for five in 21.1 overs (P.R. Venkat Subramanian 89).
