IRRS defends seniors' title

MADURAI: Idayam Rajendran Residential School retained the senior title defeating St. Britto HSS 50-48 while it lost the super-seniors' title to American College Higher Secondary School with a 48-37 loss in the 21st Mangaleswari memorial Trophy State-level inter-school basketball tournament organised by V.M.J. Maticulation Higher Secondary School here on Saturday.

Special Awards: Seniors: Shooter: R. Venkata Subramania Babu (I.R.R.S.); Defender: Arulraj (St. Britto); Promising youngster: V. Ashok Mayuran (V.M.J.). Super-seniors: Shooter: S.Madhavan (I.R.R.S.; Defender: K. Saravanan (A.C.HSS); Promising youngster: A.Niranjan (V.M.J.).

The results: Seniors (Final): Idayam Rajendran R.S. 50 (J.Pragadeesh 14, M.Manojkumar 12) bt St. Britto HSS 48 (V.C.Dinesh kumar 19, G. Arulraj 13).

Super-seniors (Final): ACHSS 48 (K.Saravanan 16, G.Radhakrishnan 13) bt Idayam Rajenderan R.S. 37 (S.Prasanth 10, N.A. Narendran 13). Semifinals: ACHSS 49 (K.Saravanan 18) bt St. Xavier's HSS Palayamkottai 46 (T.Maniraj 20); IRRS 45 (Sri Ramakrishnan 16) bt St. Mary's Madurai 43(Srinivasan 15).

GEC, FXC triumph

Government Engineering College, Tirunelveli and Francis Xavier College, Nagercoil won the men's and women's titles respectively in the Anna University Zone-10 inter-engineering college badminton tournament at Sivakasi on Saturday.

The results: Men (final): GEC 3 bt Mepco SEC 2 (Daniel bt Srikanth 21-18, 17-21, 21-17; Andrew lost to Sunder 8-21, 12-21; Daniel & Vimal lost to Prem & Siva 19-21, 22-24; Sekar bt Prem 21-19, 21-13; Sekar & Andrew bt Srikanth & Vivek 21-18, 21-14). Third Place: NEC, Kovilpatti 3 bt St. Xavier's EC, Nagercoil 2.

MSS WC wins title

MSS Wakfboard College defeated Arulmigu Kalasalingam CAS 3-1 to clinch the badminton title of the Madurai Kamaraj University A zone inter-collegiate tournament at the University indoor Stadium at Madurai on Friday.
