DINDIGUL: A special committee comprising a panchayat president, village administrative officer, school headmaster and social worker, has been constituted to identify eligible beneficiaries residing in Samathuvapurams for the distribution of free colour television sets. The list of beneficiaries would be tabled before the gram sabha meeting for approval, said Collector R. Vasuki. The government sanctioned Rs. 60.83 lakh for improving basic amenities such as road, drinking water and streetlights and undertaking repair works in group-houses at the six samathuvapurams in the district. Administrative sanction was received for taking up various development works to provide drinking water facility and roads at an estimated cost of Rs.22.35 lakh. A total of 45 works were identified at Samathuvapurams in Seevalsaragu village, Bangarupuram in Reddiyarchatram union, Kunnuvarankottai in Batlagundu union, Sukkamanaickenpattti in Palani union and Virupatchi village in Oddanchatram union. Besides, steps were taken to renovate the existing 352 group-houses in the six samathuvapurams, the Collector said.
