CUDDALORE: Ballot papers of various hues will be used for the local body elections due in October, according to Gagandeep Singh Bedi, District Collector. Addressing an all-party meeting here on Friday, Mr. Bedi said the papers would be printed in at least four colours: for panchayat ward member posts - white; for panchayat presidents - light pink; panchayat union ward members - green; and for district panchayat ward members - yellow. For town panchayats and municipalities the ballot papers would be in white. The Collector said if there were any objections regarding the colour pattern, these could be intimated to respective officials. Each voter in the rural area would have to cast four votes, whereas his counterpart in the urban area would cast a single vote. Mr. Bedi said each ward would have one polling station, and if there were more than 800 voters there would be two polling stations one for men and another for women. In all, 2,890 polling stations would be set up : 2,292 in the panchayats, 271 in town panchayats and 327 in municipalities. Mr. Bedi said the draft electoral rolls had been put up in the offices of the local bodies. If the names of the voters did not figure in the lists, they could approach the officials.
