ANANTAPUR: Keeping in view the experience of the outbreak of sporadic violence after the polling hours and after counting of votes in the first two phases of the gram panchayat elections, the district administration has decided to declare the results early in the third phase scheduled on Sunday to minimise the possibility of clashes. Of the 390 gram panchayats with 3,790 wards in Anantapur revenue division, election process was taken up in 368 panchayats and 3,546 wards as the term of 22 panchayats and their 244 wards was not completed. In the 368 panchayats, sarpanches were elected unopposed in 71 villages. Similarly, 1,548 ward members were also elected unanimously. Anantapur Revenue Divisional Officer A.V. Ramprasad told newspersons on Saturday that in all 821 candidates were in the fray for the remaining 297 sarpanch posts. The administration had set up 3,626 polling stations to enable about 6.88 lakh electorate utilise their right of franchise. A total of 6,923 polling officers will man the polling exercises. Meanwhile, with the help of the police, the revenue officials of the district have identified 80 villages as troublesome, 99 sensitive, 94 hypersensitive and 21 as Maoist-affected in 20 revenue mandals.
