Action plan for uplift of Muslims discussed

MYSORE: The former Union Minister C.K. Jaffer Sharief and Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha K. Rehman Khan were among the political leaders and officials from the Muslim community in the State, who participated in a two-day brainstorming session on the development of the Muslim community on Saturday.

The two-day conference has been organised by the recently formed Centre for Community Development, Bangalore. It took up a number of issues faced by the Muslim community, including educational advancement, socio-economic development and communal harmony.

Sources at the Centre for Community Development told presspersons that the objective of the meeting was to draft an action plan for the uplift of the Muslim community in the State.

Communal harmony

The participants deliberated on the need to bring about political awareness; educational advancement; socio-economic development; using Wakf property for community development; empowerment of women; and communal harmony.

Mr. Sharief, Mr. Khan, Minister for Wakf and Haj Zameer Ahmed Khan and Islamic scholar Maulana Khadeer Ahmed Amri addressed the gathering.

Groups were constituted from among the participants for preparing an action plan for each of the issues discussed during the opening session. On Sunday, each group is expected to make presentations and finalise an action plan.

Implementation

At the end of the two-day session on Sunday, the Centre for Community Development will assign responsibility for implementation of the action plan regarding each issue and fix a time schedule. The State panel of the Centre for Community Development will review the progress of the action plan from time to time. Those who participated in the conference included the former Ministers Qamrul Islam; C.R. Sageer Ahmed, R. Roshan Baig, B.A. Mohiudeen and Naseer Ahmed. Lok Sabha MP Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi and besides legislators Syed Yasin and Saleem Ahmed also attended it.

Among those who attended the conference were IAS officers Syed Zameer Pasha, Mohammed Sanaulla and M. Khalid Ahmed. Senior officials including S.N.H. Rizvi, Tahseen Ahmed, Ateeq Ahmed Khan, and Inspector General of Police U. Nissar Ahmed.
