Staggered power supply

CHENNAI: As the Madipakkam power transformer capacity is being enhanced from 2 a.m. on August 6 to 5 p.m. on August 7, the area's electricity supply will by fed by one of the sub stations. Residents may experience staggering of power supply during the mentioned time, according to a press release from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.

Seminar on youth and media

Yuva Shakthi, a registered voluntary non-political organisation, aimed at the welfare of youth, is conducting a one-day inter- collegiate seminar on `Youth and Media' at Anna University, on August 7 between 9.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. The primary objective of the seminar is to throw light on the role of the media on youth and nation-building. It will also tackle the options, challenges and duties of media persons.

Lecture on global warming

The Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology, Loyola College, organised a lecture by Dr. Ramachandran, IFS, Forest Utilisation Officer, Tamil Nadu Forest Department. He spoke on `Global Warming and Environmental Impact'.

Drive against alcohol

Classical music contest

For the 152nd Sree Narayana Gurudev Jayanthi celebrations, Sree Narayana Mandiram is conducting a competition on classical and semi-classical music and essays and oratory for school students from August 18-20. Call 25321088 for details.

Aero-Modelling

The Hobby Club is conducting an advanced Aero-Modelling course from August 12 involving gliders, flight simulators, remote-controlled and engine powered aeroplane models. Detailed theoretical and practical training provided. Anyone above the age of 10 may join. Schools may approach the Hobby Club for extra-curricular training for their students. Planetarium closure

The B.M. Birla Planetarium at the Periyar Science and Technology centre campus will be closed to the public on August 7 for general maintenance of the projector and its accessories.

However, the permanent science exhibition at the centre will function as usual.

ICF official assumes office

G.Subramanian, on Friday took over as new Public Relations Officer, ICF, Perambur.

Mr.Subramanian was formerly Chief Publicity Inspector, Southern Railway.
