NEW DELHI: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Delhi police probing into the lapses that led to acquittals in the Jessica Lal murder case early this year has registered a case against Bina Ramani for allegedly unauthorisedly using the premises for commercial purposes and also using forged documents to acquire licence to run the Tamarind Court restaurant where Jessica Lal was shot dead in April 1999. According to the police, Bina Ramani has been booked for cheating and using a forged document as genuine. The police said the place where the restaurant was located was not meant for commercial purposes. They added that the power of attorney she produced as an evidence of owner's consent to run the restaurant was also not valid. A police official also said she had produced a forged ration card to acquire the licence to run the restaurant. Inquiries from the Food and Civil Supplies Department revealed that no ration card was issued in her name, he said. Early this week, the Delhi High Court had asked the SIT to complete initial investigations into the acquittals and file a report in two months.
