Videocon launches DVD player

HYDERABAD: Videocon Industries has launched a high-end DVD player, which is a unique combination of a set top box and a 5.1 channel DVD player with multi format playability. One can play MP3, CD, VCD, JPEG picture-viewer and FM channels operating a single remote.

The set top box, which is bundled with the DVD player, receives signals for more than 35 free-to-air television channels and 14 radio channels, said Jyoti Shekhar, vice-president (sales & marketing) at the launch of the product here on Saturday. "It is a single unit with a single remote and no extra wiring", he said.

The new model is priced at Rs. 5,190 and is targeted at youth and also rural public who have no access to channels due to signal problems.

Videocon Industries' zonal head Vivek Mishra said the multi-feature-packed product is the first of its kind in the country and they are targeting to sell 50,000 units in South India by next March.

The company is ranked third in the DVD segment with a size of 3,00000 units.
