Transport operator `shoots' himself dead

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A transport operator G. Ranga Babu, 40, shot himself dead in his house at Street No. 1 of Habsiguda on Saturday, the Osmania University police said. Reasons behind the suicide are not yet known. "But we learnt that pecuniary problems drove him to resort to the extreme step," Sub-Inspector Ramesh Reddy told reporters.

The victim went into the bathroom around 9.30 a.m., bolted from inside and shot on his temple using his .32 licensed revolver.

No suicide note was found.

Quartet held

The city police on Saturday arrested four persons who allegedly tried to cheat a person saying they would give him an iridium coin worth Rs.100 crores in international market in return for the Rs. 32 lakhs loan they took from him.

The arrested persons -- T. Rammohan Rao, 56, Satish Pravin Bansode, 41, Moshiur Rahman Mondal, 45, and Shareef Khan, 36 -- borrowed Rs. 32 lakhs from one Mohd. Javhid Ahmed Siddique of Malakpet over the past few months. According to Task Force DCP G. Sudheer Babu, the quartet, expressing their helplessness when Siddique insisted on the loan repayment, lied to him that they had an iridium coin worth crores of rupees.
