HYDERABAD: Hussainsagar lake has been filled to the brim, but there was no cause for alarm since the inflow and outflow of water was very much under control, Minister for Information & Public Relations Mohd. Ali Shabbir said here on Saturday. Talking to presspersons on Saturday morning during his inspection of the lake, the Minister said though the water had crossed the full tank level of 513.4 ft by a few notches, the outflow was within the discharge capacity. While the discharge capacity of Hussainsagar was 12,000 cusecs the outflow was about 2,400 cusecs only. Moreover, all the 21 vents that allow water to flow into the surplus nala have been opened.
Surplus weirs
A Rs.50-crore plan to build a new bridge over the vents and Rs.10 crores for construction of surplus weirs to exactly quantify and regulate the extent of outflows was on the anvil. MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju said the final designs were sent for approval with the Central Design Organisation. Chief Engineer Dhan Singh said the weirs would function like gates to help MCH regulate discharge of flows during heavy rain and excess inflows into Hussainsagar.
Excess inflows
In case of any further excess inflows into the Hussainsagar surplus nala, areas like Ambedkarnagar, Arundhatinagar, Ratnanagar and others might face inundation, indicated Mr. Jaju, while pointing out that eviction notices were already issued to people living there.
