THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Scheduled Castes and Tribes A.K. Balan said here on Friday that the Government would spend Rs.10 crores to build houses for 1,100 primitive tribes. The Government was in favour of the demand for land and water supply. None of the tribal people would be evicted on the ground that they had encroached upon Government land. However, they would not be allowed to encroach upon land as benamis for others, the Minister said after a meeting with tribal leaders. Mr. Balan said that a Ministerial-level meeting would be held in consultation with the Revenue and Forest departments to solve the issue of land for tribal people. All eligible tribal people would be given land at the Aralam farm. Free transport would be arranged for the schoolchildren from the farm. The Government had taken steps for the release of lump sum grants immediately upon assuming office. Arrears in payments under other welfare schemes for tribal people would be cleared soon.
