dated August 7, 1956: Cairo calls up reservists

The 13,350-ton British aircraft-carrier, Theseus, with paratroopers aboard, sailed from Portsmouth on August 5 for the Mediterranean. The men belonged to the Sixteenth Independent Parachute Brigade - the famous "Red Devils". On board the aircraft-carrier were some green-bereted Commandos. At Devenport in south-west England, troops on August 5 loaded ammunition into the aircraft-carrier, Ocean. One of the three aircraft-carriers assigned to the Mediterranean as a result of the Suez situation, Ocean is due to sail in a day or two. Meanwhile, authoritative sources in Cairo said that all Egyptian Army reservists have been ordered to report to their units as quickly as possible.
