dated August 7, 1956: Future of Bombay

The Union Cabinet, which met in New Delhi on August 6, tentatively decided to reopen the proposal for a bigger bilingual State of Bombay with Vidarbha included. The Cabinet considered the memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister on the subject by over 200 MPs. The Congress Sub-Committee on States Reorganisation, which had a separate meeting, also supported the proposal to have a bilingual Bombay.
