THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Child Welfare Council has declared the 2004 awards for the best news report, photo-essay and television feature. The Narendran Memorial Award, instituted in memory of the late Indian Express reporter, went to Mushtaq Kodinji, Malappuram reporter of the Chandrika for his series titled `Theruvil Eriyunna Balyam,' that throws light on the menace of child begging. The Victor George Memorial Award, instituted on behalf of the late photographer of the Malayala Manorama, was bagged by Rocky George of the same daily. He was conferred the honour for his photograph titled `Ethu Jeevitha Yatra' published in the newspaper's Kottayam edition. The Mathrubhoomi news photographer V.K. Aji's `Jeevithathinte Tulasil' published in the Kannur edition won the consolation prize. The award for the best television feature instituted in the memory of K. Jayachandran, the former bureau chief of Asianet, went to Manjush George, the programme producer of Kairali TV, for his documentary `Ariyathe.' The award for the best literary work written by children went to Abhilash S., Class X student of Attingal, Anavancheri, for his travelogue `Thalasthanam Muthal Thalasthanam Vare,' which narrates his experiences during a trip to visit the President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at Rashtrapathi Bhavan in New Delhi. The awards will be given away jointly by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and Minister for Health P.K. Sreemathy on August 14.
