EDUCATING PEOPLE: B.V. Rajgopal, president Cardiological Society of India Karnataka Chapter, inaugurating the CSI North-West Karnataka Chapter in Hubli on Sunday.
HUBLI: President of Cardiological Society of India's Karnataka Chapter B.V. Rajgopal has underscored the need for launching awareness campaigns to educate people about heart diseases. Inaugurating the Cardiological Society of India (CSI) North-West Karnataka Chapter and a Continued Medical Education (CME) programme on hypertension here on Sunday, Dr. Rajgopal said of late there had been alarming increase in the number of heart related problems in the country. One of the root causes for the mounting numbers was lack of awareness, he said. The Cardiological Society of India was set up with the primary objective of providing information on heart-related problems and also helping poor patients in getting treatment. The society would targeting schoolchildren and college students in its awareness programmes, he said. Dr. Rajgopal called upon doctors to educate heart patients properly. Founder-Member of North-West CSI Chapter V.G. Nadagouda explained the objectives of founding the organisation. He said till date medical education programmes were restricted to the State capital and consequently both the patients and also the doctors were the losers. With the new unit taking shape, doctors of north Karnataka would be benefited through the Continued Medical Programmes and consequently the patients, he said. Founder-president of CSI North-West Karnataka Chapter G.B. Sattur spoke on the various programmes the association would be conducting in the days to come. He said a minimum of four CME programmes for doctors would be held every year. Educative programmes on heart related problems would be held in schools and colleges. The thrust would be on preventive measures. Ramesh Babruwad, honorary general-secretary; N.S. Hiregoudar, co-convenor of CME, and other office-bearers were present. Doctors from various places of north Karnataka participated in the CME programme.
