KOCHI: The four-day World Malayalee Council (WMC) Global conference concluded here on Sunday by handing over the initial investment for the Global Village project to Minister for Forests Benoy Viswom. Addressing a public function marking the conclusion of the conference, Mr. Viswom said that perhaps the Malayalis abroad can hear the call of the people back home, which he pointed out was the moving force behind the formation of the Council and the project mooted by them. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy inaugurated the session. Addressing the function, he said that the Non-Resident Indians are aware of the people's problems here and therefore can contribute a lot in the State's development. He said that NRIs support for the Government programme in providing housing for the poor through the Lakshamveedu scheme would be most welcome. At the function, the newly elected members were installed. Andrew Pappachan is the new chairman.
