KOCHI: Kerala is capable of attracting more investment. It requires private initiatives supported by Government policies. Though lack of infrastructure is an impediment to progress, entrepreneurship will rise above the constraints. This was the undertone of a seminar on `Investment Opportunities in Kerala,' organised by the Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Indian Worldwide Chamber of Commerce as part of the World Malayalee Council meeting. K.S. Harshan, executive director, Federal Bank, said Kerala has a talented workforce. Knowledge was a supreme factor for successful business, he said. Another favourable factor for the business community is the good communication facilities available in the State. Mr. Harshan said there were no world-class institutions in Kerala though the State was known for its high rate of literacy. Industrialist T.R. Taghulal said the labour in Kerala is not cheap, but quite competitive. An industrial culture is not attained overnight, but is accrued over a period. It needs dedication to bring about such a culture. District Collector A.P.M. Mohammad Hanish said that various sectors were developing fast. Jacob Thomas, senior executive, IndusInd Bank, said Kerala had been way back in investment in the stock market. Ibrahim Khan, industrialist, stressed the need for a dynamic approach to woo investors. M.V. Pylee, educationist, moderated the seminar.
