VELLORE: Six quacks were arrested in different parts of the district in the last two days following a drive by the police on the orders of the Superintendent of Police M. Ashok Kumar. The Gudiyatham police arrested S. Manickam (35) of Sandaipettai and owner of Manickam Hospital in Melpatti Road on Friday. Police said G. Gunasekharan (50) of Melpatti Road lodged a complaint that medicines given to him by the `doctor' to treat stomach ache caused diarrhoea. A. Meera Sahib (39) of Sandaipettaiand owner of Baba Moolam Clinic was arrested on Friday after G. Arumugam (40) of Thalayatham complained that his fever was not cured despite the medicines given by the `doctor'. C. Narayanan (30) a registered medical practitioner running a hospital in Ponneri; V. Subramani (51) running a clinic in S. Kodiyur; P. Murugan (65) running a clinic in Munusamy Naidu Street and L. Prakasam (35) running a clinic in Vakkanampatti, all in Jolarpet police station limits, were arrested on Thursday. They were charged with unauthorised possession of allopathic medicines like dichloricine, chloroquin and paracetamol.
