Manmohan condoles Nandini Sathpathy's demise

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed deep grief over the demise of Nandini Sathpathy, former Union Minister and Chief Minister of Orissa.

In a letter addressed to her son Tathagata Sathpathy, the Prime Minister said: "A prominent and popular leader of public life, Ms. Sathpathy had a distinguished record of service to the nation. A close associate of Indira Gandhi, she endeared herself to the people of our country by her calibre and talent as an able organiser and leader."

Ms. Sathpathy not only excelled in politics but also made a name for herself as an outstanding writer and poet, the letter said.
