An uphill task: Thaksin

BANGKOK: Thailand's caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on Sunday expressed concern over the suspected militant shooting of an outgoing Senator in the deep south on Sunday. He said resolving the violence in the region was an uphill task. Fakrutdin Bodo, 52-year-old caretaker Senator of Narathiwat province, was shot at while he was riding a motorcycle. Mr. Thaksin said the violence was basically connected to extremist groups and stemmed from complicated factors including politics, ``dark influences'' and drugs. — Xinhua
