Thiruvananthapuram: The doctors in the Government health service will go on a token strike on August 30 demanding better service conditions and in protest against the Government's alleged indifference to the doctors' non-cooperation strike which has crossed 100 days. The Kerala Government Medical Officers' Association (KGMOA), at its State committee meeting held at Thalassery on Sunday, decided to intensify their agitation as the Government had not been showing any inclination to resolve the problems faced by doctors, a KGMOA spokesperson told The Hindu . The KGMOA will hold dharnas at all district headquarters on August 24. Doctors have also decided to paralyse all services except the casualty services in major Government hospitals on August 30. From September 12 to 26, doctors will stage hunger strike in front of the Secretariat. If the Government still does not take note of their grievances, all doctors in Health Services will submit their resignation letters en masse on November 1, the KGMOA spokesperson said. He said that the doctors had been on a non-cooperation strike since April 17, raising various demands, including better pay package, resolution of anomalies in pay revision and demanding a restructuring of health services. Even while admitting in private that the doctors' demands are genuine, the Government has not shown any interest in ending the doctors' strike, it was pointed out. Even though several rounds of discussions had been held, no positive suggestions have come forth from the Government, he added. The KGMOA will give the strike notice next week.
