Kanam Rajendran has been elected State general secretary of the AITUC.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The AITUC State general council has called upon the Government to come out with an action plan for the labour and industrial sectors. The two-day meeting of the AITUC general council, which concluded here on Sunday, welcomed the measures already taken by the Government in these sectors, but pointed out several other issues that called for urgent solution. The Government must immediately initiate a dialogue with trade unions and prioritise the issues that need to be addressed on a war footing, the AITUC leadership said. The meeting elected trade union leader and the former MLA Kanam Rajendran as the State general secretary of the AITUC to replace C. Divakaran, who has been made the Food and Civil Supplies Minister in the Left Democratic Front Government. The meeting also elected the following persons as the other office-bearers: C.A. Kurian (president); C. Krishnan, K.P. Prabhakaran, E.A. Kumaran, K.M. Kuttikrishnan, Vazhoor Soman, P. Subramanian, T. Krishnan and P. Vijayamma (vice-presidents); Vijayan Kunissery, A.N. Rajan, M. Radhakrishnan Nair, T.J. Anjelose, P. Raju, J. Udayabhanu and M. Sujanapriyan (secretaries); and S. Karunakara Kurup (treasurer).
