East Bengal keeps winning

KOLKATA: East Bengal tasted its second successive win beating Railway FC 3-0 in a Premier Division match of Calcutta Football League, here on Sunday. After a barren first session, East Bengal stepped up the thrust and found the lead in the 66th minute through a penalty scored by Chandan Das.

East Bengal's Brazilian coach Roberto Pereira Da Silva made two quick changes to see the lead doubled in the 79th minute. Goa import Vincent Pires scored the second goal before substitute Raju Singh rounded off the scoring in injury time.

The win helped East Bengal net six points and gain the top spot in the league table. With the National football camp underway the league fixtures were redrawn presumably to give big teams, who have contributed players to the camp, a breather. The major league action will restart after the Saudi Arabia match on August 16. — Principal Correspondent
