Closed circuit TV cameras at junctions in Kollam city

Staff Reporter

New Kollam East Police CI's office inaugurated

  • A sum of Rs.1.25 crores has been allocated for the purpose
  • Will help to make maintenance of law and order more efficient

KOLLAM: The Kollam police will install closed circuit television cameras at all major junctions in the city in the next two to three weeks. Each camera will be monitored through a separate television set at the police control room here.

A sum of Rs.1.25 crores has been allocated by the Kollam City Corporation for the purpose. The allocation was made following a request by the police. Formalities with regard to the purchase of equipment will be completed in a week's time.

The system is being installed to help make maintenance of law and order in the city more efficient. A couple of years ago such cameras were installed at the Chinnakada circle, the Chinnakada private bus stand and the Kollam railway station. But the system developed a snag and stopped functioning owing to lack of proper maintenance.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Kollam SP S. Gopinath inaugurated the new Kollam East Police Circle Inspector's office in the Kollam East Police station complex. The old circle inspector's office was located in two rooms of the Police Museum building inside the complex. The control room functioning from the museum building will also be shifted to a new premises in the East Police station complex soon.

The police will organise an ad hoc seminar for drivers and law enforcement personnel to improve the traffic system in the city. Time punching system for private buses will be introduced and the services of traffic wardens will be resumed.
