NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said that in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games in 2010, East Delhi will witness tremendous infrastructural development. Construction of the Games Village in the trans-Yamuna area will not only catalyse all-round development of the area, but will also ensure civic services and civic infrastructure at par with the most developed localities of New Delhi. Ms. Dikshit was speaking after laying the foundation stone of a community centre at Old Seemapuri on Sunday. She was accompanied by the area MP Sandeep Dikshit, Chairman of the Trans-Yamuna Development Board Narendra Nath, local MLA Veer Singh Dhigan and Chairman of the Delhi Wakf Board Chaudhury Mateen Ahmed besides other officials. The community centre being built at a cost of Rs.1.5 crores will be completed within a year. The Chief Minister said her Government was conscious of the development needs of the trans-Yamuna area and was committed to fulfilling them in right earnest. The past few years, she added, has witnessed the coming up of several hospitals, community centres and a cultural centre in the area. Ms. Dikshit said after completion of works on community centres, the Trans-Yamuna Development Board will undertake construction of about 60 public toilets in East Delhi. "This would go a long way in serving the sanitation needs of the area,'' she added.
